Fractures of the malar-zygomatic compound.

چکیده
Fractures of the malar-zygomatic compound have in recent years emerged from relative obscurity and become one of the better known fractures seen in casualty departments and maxillofacial units. During the period from January 1950 to August 195I, I07 cases were treated in this unit at the Wythenshawe Hospital and an analysis of these cases is given in this paper. More car and motor-cycle accidents have been given as the cause of the apparent increase in the numbers now seen, but our records tend to show that many are still due to brawls, flying missiles and falls. A better knowledge in the diagnosis of this type of injury and the ever-increasing use of X-rays may be the most important factors; 72 per cent. of this series were adult males, 27 per cent. were females and one was a boy of four.

Rigid internal fixation of zygoma fractures: A comparison of two-point and three-point fixation
Background: Displaced fractures of the zygomatic bone can result in signi›cant functional and aesthetic sequelae. Therefore the treatment must achieve adequate and stable reduction at fracture sites so as to restore the complex multidimensional relationship of the zygoma to the surrounding craniofacial skeleton. Many experimental biophysical studies have compared stability of zygoma after one, ...
متن کاملReduction of Zygomatic Fractures Using the Carroll-Girard T-bar Screw
Zygomatic fractures are the second most common facial bone fractures encountered and treated by plastic surgeons. Stable fixation of fractured fragments after adequate exposure is critical for ensuring three-dimensional anatomic reduction. Between January 2008 and December 2010, 17 patients with zygomatic fractures were admitted to our hospital; there were 15 male and 2 female patients. The ave...

A girl with mild geroderma osteodysplastica is reported in order to raise the profile of this autosomal recessive condition which may be underdiagnosed. The important signs of this syndrome include a droopy, jowly face with a degree of malar hypoplasia and mandibular prognathism, lax, but non-hyperelastic skin, most marked over the extremities, and osteoporosis which may be associated with frac...
متن کاملEffectiveness of secondary post-traumatic periorbital reconstruction.
In a 12-year period, 56 consecutive patients have undergone secondary periorbital reconstruction after trauma. To evaluate the overall results and the need for further correction, three diagnostic groups were formed. These were: malar bone (n = 16), midface (n = 16) and fronto-orbital fractures (n = 24). Also, in order to judge the reliability of the procedures used most frequently, all osteoto...
متن کاملZygomatic Arch and Orbital Fractures
The zygoma forms part of the floor and lateral wall of the orbit and the zygomatic arch is an important feature in the structure and appearance of the face. The malar complex refers to the zygoma and maxillary bones (and therefore forms part of the orbital floor and lateral orbital wall). This plays a key role in the structure and function of the facial skeleton. In addition to providing suppor...
